Arguing with God has been the natural state of all men (and women) since the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Our arguing with Him can be appropriately called rebellion. We are rebels against God. It is not just a little difference of opinion. It is a way of life. The verb rebel means to refuse allegiance to and oppose by force an established authority. Rebellion is defined as an uprising designed to change or overthrow an existing government or authority or open defiance toward an authority or convention. That’s us, rebels in rebellion. One-ups-man-ship is the game we all play with God until we trust Him and submit to Him. I know some people who seem not to be assertive in any area in life. Remarkably they are strongly assertive against God. We’ve probably all heard of assertiveness training. There are many books on the subject. Assertiveness can be helpful in worldly endeavors. While we all have different degrees of assertiveness in this world, assertiveness against God comes naturally. There are people who are a part of some sort of a team and co-operate wonderfully with their fellow team members. It is difficult to see how those same people are totally uncooperative with God.
We will always lose any argument with God. Jesus never lost an argument. God may permit you to beat one of His messengers in an argument. You may even be able to kill one. But in the process you are beating yourself. We cannot win an argument with God for one simple reason. He is always right.
