Read 2 Corinthians 6:1-18. V17 Come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord.
People are hemmed in or hindered, not by circumstances, but by their own selves. Several years ago, a student at the college where I was President, came to me deeply concerned, and said, You know, Dr. Cook, these rules at the college are terrible. I think we should do away with them because they’re hindering my Christian growth and testimony. I answered, Well, my dear friend, I’m not in a position to do away with these rules. Let’s talk to the Lord about them instead. And we did. Some time later, the same young fellow confessed in a chapel service, Though outwardly I’ve been fighting the rules and the administration, inwardly I realize that I’ve been fighting against God. I got right with God and things have been different.
One of the greatest lessons you and I will ever learn is that Christian separation is not primarily from things or by things; not from people or by people. Christian separation has to do with your own heart and mine. Isn’t that right?
My friend, you are not limited by anything except your relationship with God. Cut clean from the world and sin and let the Lord have His way. And when He does, He will dwell in you, walk with you, and be God and Father to you (vv. 16, 18). What a difference! Where does it all start? When you realize the heart of the problem is inside, not outside.
