Read John 1:1-42. 41: He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah … 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Andrew was always known as Simon Peter’s brother. He never seemed to have any special recognition of his own. But chances are that Andrew was so busy helping other people that he never noticed the lack of medals! His first act after having spent a day with Jesus was to look up his brother and bring him to the Savior! While Philip was sputtering about how much it would cost to feed the 5,000, Andrew was surveying the situation and discovering that indeed something could be done, provided that a certain little boy’s lunch was placed in Divine Hands. And when the Greeks came seeking Jesus, Andrew and Philip were the ones who brought them to the Lord. Certainly, there was never any question about Andrew’s willing spirit. When Christ called the fishermen to be His disciples, Andrew responded immediately, even though it meant leaving the ship and its nets. And three years later when the cloud had received the risen Savior out of their sight, Andrew was among those who returned to Jerusalem to await the outpoured Holy Spirit.
Why do we remember this man? Because he was a soul-winner, and because he did something about a situation involving need, instead of just talking about it. That’s a pretty good example to follow, wouldn’t you say? Don’t be afraid to offer God something for Him to use. It may seem ridiculously small, just as the little boy’s lunch must have seemed in the face of 5,000 hungry men; but Jesus makes the difference!
