Psalms 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
Read Psalms 19:1-14.
The only way to move a person’s character heavenward is by the impact of God’s Word on his intellect, emotions, and will. “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?” the psalmist asks (Ps. 119:9). The answer comes back immediately: “By taking heed thereto according to Thy Word.” Plow God’s Word into your mind and memory and you will be kept by the power of His truth: “Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee.”
For the fainthearted and wavering, thy Word is settled in heaven (119:89). For the bored and jaded, God’s Word is “sweeter than honey” (v. 103). For the thin-skinned and easily offended, the Word is protection for their feelings: “Great peace have they which love Thy Law: and nothing shall offend them” (v. 165). For those needing guidance, “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (v. 105). For the scatterbrained, the Word will teach “good judgment and knowledge” (v. 66). For the discouraged, there is “hope in Thy Word” (v. 81). For the chronic backslider, the Word of God is a cure: “Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept Thy Word” (v. 67).
Make up your mind that the Bible is the ultimate source book, the last court of appeal, and the absolute rule for your faith and conduct. You cannot improve on it, and you court disaster when you attempt to get around its plain teachings. It is perfect.
The Bible does make a difference. I guarantee that your regular Bible reading, and the prayer which that reading inspires, will make a perceptible difference in those needy areas of your life and personality! Small thought here. Dare to risk the decision-making situations of life on the plain teachings of God’s Word. See for yourself the difference it can make.
