Joshua 1:8 Thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and… shalt have good success.
Read also Joshua 1:1-18.
Leadership isn’t something into which you plunge all of a sudden. If you’re going to be a good leader, you must learn to be a good follower. If you want to be number one, learn to do a great job as number two or number twenty-two.
Look with me, will you, at Joshua 1:8. ‘This book of the Law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.’ As this verse teaches, a real success formula for leaders begins with memorizing the Word of God. If you’re talking about Scripture constantly that means you’ve memorized it. What’s more, meditate on it day and night. That means think it over or, more in keeping with the symbolism here, chew it up. Think about God’s Word in the little empty spaces each day when you are in charge of your thoughts. Last but not least, obey the Bible’s truths. Make a project of obeying something from the Word of God every day. It will make a difference in your life and in its impact on others.
Small thought here. You have to be willing to be a number-two man before you can be a very good number-one man. Many a person would rather start at the top if he had his druthers, as they say, but it doesn’t work that way.
