We take too much for granted. We are too presumptuous. We have no guarantees about our future lives on earth. Often we don’t know how dependent we are upon the Lord in everything and for everything. Even worse, we are too seldom interested in being in His will. But believers have rock solid guarantees about their future lives in Heaven.
James 4:15 For that ye ought to say, IF THE LORD WILL, we shall live, and do this, or that.
Acts 18:21 But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, IF GOD WILL. And he sailed from Ephesus.
1 Corinthians 4:19 But I will come to you shortly, IF THE LORD WILL, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.
1 Corinthians 16:7 For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to tarry a while with you, IF THE LORD PERMIT.
Hebrews 6:3 And this will we do, IF GOD PERMIT.
Luke 22:41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, 42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
Even the sinless Jesus subjected His will to the will of His Heavenly Father, and my Heavenly Father and hopefully your Heavenly Father. We sinners desperately need to subject our will to the will of God! We live because of the will of God, and we must be born again by the will of God and, in a real sense we are then born into the will of God, into a life that pleases Him.
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, NOR OF THE WILL OF THE FLESH, NOR OF THE WILL OF MAN, BUT OF GOD.
Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 FOR IT IS GOD WHICH WORKETH IN YOU BOTH TO WILL AND TO DO OF HIS GOOD PLEASURE.
