The tendency to put things off is native to us all. Every son and daughter of Adam will at some time say, *Not now, but later.* The fact that something is human nature, however, doesn*t make it right. Every time we put off doing the right thing, we are voting against it, and by so doing, Solomon says, *devising evil against [our] neighbor.* For the most part, we do not postpone matters which we consider really important. The key, therefore, to overcoming this tendency to delay is to reconsider life*s priorities, find out what is really important, and decide to do something about it now.
It is a God-ordained duty to do good. *What doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly?* (Micah 6:8) The Apostle Paul echoed this truth when he remarked, *For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them* (Eph. 2:10). We all have the ability to do good. *It is in the power of thine hand to do it,* Solomon says. Excuses will not suffice here. Even the most limited human beings can find something good to do. Furthermore, God holds us responsible for doing the good of which we are capable: *To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin* (James 4:17).
Small thought here. Learn and begin to use the technique of *prioritizing* your life. List your duties and opportunities in order of importance, then take up the most important thing first and get at it immediately.
