Most of the time when the Bible speaks of our hearts, it speaks about the none-physical part of us, the spiritual part of us, the part of us that produces evil or good, the part of us that God changes from sinful to righteous, the part of us that will exist forever either in Hell or in Heaven in new spiritual bodies. Your heart is the real you. As I recall there is only one occasion where the Bible speaks about the muscle in our chest that pumps blood around our bodies. Perhaps I shall find some more in the course of this study.
1 Samuel 25:37 But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone. 38 And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died.
1 Kings 8:61 Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.
The only part of us that can be completely perfect this side of Heaven is our heart. And the only way our hearts can be perfect is to have Jesus living and working in them. When He is living and working in our hearts, our perfect hearts have influence over the rest of us. (Our thoughts, our words and our actions.)
Ephesians 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
