It was business as usual. In Noah’s time nobody cared about the future. Sin of every kind was rampant and God was grieved. Our Lord Jesus said, ‘As the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be’ (Matt. 24:37).
Noah’s generation was given over to pleasure and self-indulgence. Now can you tell me, please, whether there are parallels between that day and our own? Between today and the overt, ‘pronto,’ unashamed wickedness of that time? Sociologists say we are in the midst of a sensate culture, as people rely on their senses alone. ‘Don’t bother me with thinking,’ someone has said. Yes, my friend, we don’t know the date, but we can know we are approaching the day when Our Lord Jesus said He will return.
Small thought here. Remember that the second coming of Christ will involve drastic separations. Separation at the level of everyday living: two people grinding at a mill, two people working in the field, two people sleeping in a bed, according to another portion of the Gospel record. Ordinary situations. Workaday situations. Domestic situations. The rapture will likewise produce drastic separations, because only those who are born again, who know the Lord Jesus as their Savior will be caught up to meet Him.
