When his class was given an assignment to define love, the 8-year-old son of Leroy Eims of the Navigators gave the best definition of love I have ever heard. He said “Love gives.” When Leroy was surprised at his answer the lad gave him John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The lad was also surprised that his Bible teacher father had not arrived at that definition. Before he gave his father John 3:16 he expressed disappointment that his answer could have been longer and better. I don’t think longer would have been better.
Psalms 8:2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
Matthew 21:16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
Luke 18:17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
We should be humble before God and understand His Word as that 8-year-old does.
